I love it when I find little still life portraits in my apartment.

I'm busy sewing up some new designs, and am heading back to the studio tomorrow. I need to make the most of the weekend, but have already managed to sleep half the day away.

It's Nuit Blanche tonight, and I might try to sneak away later and check out some of the events. I really loved it last year, but it was definitely a late night, and I have to get up early to hit the studio in time to be back to watch Canada play the USA. I'm not the biggest fan of the Olympics or the whole "own the podium" mantra we've adopted, but I will shelve my feelings to watch that game.

fresh as snow

I stopped by a local thrift store today to exchange some things, and this lovely lacey blouse called my name from the rack.

It's rare for me to find pretty vintage shirts that actually fit, and I would like to take a moment to personally thank my former pilates teacher for whipping my abs into shape. If it weren't for her and her slightly psychotic "N'arrĂȘtez pas!" demeanor , I don't think I would have squeezed into the tiny waist on this thing. If my ribs change shape anytime soon, I'm doomed.

Pretty, ain't it?

visual proof that I've been busy

I've been busy designing, and this is my proof. Isn't my mouse path from this morning beautiful?

Coincidentally, this looks very much like the snow falling outside the window right now.

Found via Door Sixteen.

There's something about the bold patterns and muted colour patterns on fabrics from the 50's, 60's, and 70's that I can't get enough of. I collect (let's be honest: hoard) these fabrics with wild abandon, and incorporate as many as I can in my work.

When I'm slaving away at my computer/sewing/drawing table, I have a clear view to the ones that reside on my bed.

While I'm not a fan of our crazy messy tiny bedroom right now (and our horribly off-white, nicotine-esque paint job), I do love our bedding. Something about those patterns makes me infinitely happy, especially when they're all mixed together.

Lucienne Day, 1917-2010

Cockaigne fabric, 1961, Lucienne Day

I have officially been hiding under a rock.

I have just discovered that Lucienne Day died on January 30th.

I didn't know of Lucienne's work until an instructor pointed out to me - nearly 10 years ago - that my work had a similar style. I borrowed a copy of this book from the library and fell in love with her designs.

I have wanted my own copy of that book for years, and I finally decided to buy a copy early this January, with a Christmas gift certificate.

I am infinitely happy to be able to look at her work every day. She was ahead of her time, and still is my biggest inspiration.
